A pilot program that allow some political marketing campaign emails bypass spam filters in Gmail is shutting down on the finish of this month. Google confirmed the Jan. 31 finish date in a authorized submitting Monday. The tech big is asking a federal choose to dismiss a lawsuit filed by the Republican Nationwide Committee that accuses it of disproportionately sending conservative political emails to spam.
Google launched the pilot program final 12 months after conservatives leveled fees of political bias in opposition to the corporate, claiming that Republican fundraising emails had been extra prone to be despatched to spam than fundraising emails from Democrats had been.
The RNC reportedly mentioned the pilot program did not go far sufficient. In October, it filed a lawsuit accusing Google of censoring Republican fundraising emails.
Google has denied any political bias in the way it kinds e mail.
